CMS Data Group 2013 GUIs

These are MATLAB graphical user interfaces (GUIs) which allows one to easily look at data from the CMS detector at CERN. In each GUI, there are two graph types (histogram and scatterplot) you can use to see the data. There are 100,000 dimuon and 100,000 dielectron events that are available for use in each GUI. To install and run these applications, just follow the directions below.

Instructions:
1) click on one of the hyperlinks.
2) a black screen with some words on it will pop up. don't do anything.
3) click 'ok' or 'run' when prompted. you may be prompted more than once.
4) if your computer says 'unsafe to download,' (or something of that nature) click 'run anyways.'
4b) sometimes you have to click on 'active downloads' to find the 'run anyways' button.
5) the MATLAB compiler will install itself after all the file's information is automatically extracted.
6) after the compiler is installed, there will be an icon on your desktop labeled with the name of the GUI you just downloaded.
6b) double click the icon to open it.
7) enjoy! select the graph type, data set(s), data variable(s), and set the graph scales and bin width (histogram only) before you graph.

troubleshooting:

-if plotting a histogram and no graph shows up, you may have forgotten to specify a bin width

for a histogram, you must:
-choose data set (either dimuon or dielectron)
-graph choice = histogram
-set x min and x max (or you can choose to have it autoscale on Giancarlo's)
-set the bin width (1 is good to start with)
-select any data criteria you want to make (such as: only graph "Mass" less than 30) (only on Giancarlo's version)
-hit 'Graph'

for a scatterplot, you must:
-choose a data set for both x and y
-graph choice = scatterplot
-set x min, x max, y min, and y max (or you can choose to have it autoscale on Giancarlo's)
-select any data criteria you want to make (such as: only graph "Mass" less than 30) (only on Giancarlo's version)
-hit 'Graph'

note: these GUIs are different in design but similar in function because we students helped each other make our programs while working at the University of Notre Dame's QuarkNet Center during the summer of 2013.
